The Key To Creating Killer Products That Sell Like Hot Cakes

Create Killer Products that sell themselves and attracts affiliates to sell more for you.  Read on……

This is a known fact in marketing and psychology:

People buy on emotion and justify with logic

It’s true isn’t it.  Why do people go to the supermarket to buy a branded product over the supermarket own brand product when the content is exactly the same?

Even more interesting.  The new Apple iphone 4 was released recently and sales are going strong, despite the well known problems it has including a dodgy antenna!  Yet if another company had released a phone with problems publicized would it’s sales continue to be as strong?

It’s simple.  People are emotionally driven when it comes to consumption.  The combination of appeal, marketing, social proof creates the emotional pre sell already in people’s minds.

So in order to become a better internet marketer, we need to understand the psychology of our customers.  But of course, we want to be ethical aswell and don’t want to exploit this knowledge.  After all, if you use tactics to sell someone a piece of trash, it will come back to you in the future.

Quick aside:  Some people may have been wondering where I have been for the past few weeks.  I was away in Japan having a blast.  But it’s great to be back here and posting again too :)

Japan is an amazing place.  It’s a melting pot of tradition and technology, dichotomy of consumerism and zen, fast pace and peacefulness.

I experienced both Tokyo and the countyside in Hakone and I was immersed into the culture and living of the people.  What I could see and enjoy allowed me to realize how our business as internet marketers come together.  You see, Japan is famous for it’s many sub cultures with many people being part of a “tribe” or doing what they love.  Some kids love playing Baseball, some girls love Cosplay where they dress up as their favourite Anime characters, my father in law goes to pottery lesssons……and so on.

This allowed me to see many parallels to internet marketing as it is all about niches and groups of people with certain interests.  Real or online groups are still real people, and marketing online of offline is essentially the same thing even if the medium is different.

So back to creating killer products that sell like hot cakes…………………

1. Be a solution

People want to avoid pain.  People want to get a problem solved.  People want a way to do something easier.

So you want to create a solution to people’s problems.  Think:  Pain, Problems, Agitations.

Look deep into your niche market.  What are the pains, problems and agitations that people are going through?  If can create the solution to that, then you have a winner.

As an example, look at the weight loss niche.  What are the pain, problems and agitations?  Well just off the top of my head I can already think of these:

Disappointed as tried to take a diet doesn’t work;  Sad because they can’t fit into the jeans they used to wear before;  self conscious about their appearance when they meet old relative and friends;  Suffering with poor health because of their obesity……….and the list goes on.

Key point:  Be a solution to their pain, problems and agitations and you’ll have a hot product.

p.s  It’s much easier to sell a product that removes a  pain than a product that just gives benefits.

2.  Understand Your Customers By Research

O.k, so you know that you need to create solution.  But how can you find out what their problems are in the first place?

This is a tip I learned from Jay Abraham and something that Rich Schefren (big gurus) do too.  So listen up.  If they think it’s worth doing, it must be worth doing!

They advise going into Amazon and researching the books and products related to you market.  Then read the reviews of the books.  The reviews will tell you a lot about the market you are in.  What language they use, what they like, what they don’t like, what they are looking for.  This piece of advice seems so simple yet it is so effective, so make sure you try it.

Also, another way you can find out more abour your market is by going into the niche forums.  Spend some time just reading the posts and you’ll soon get a picture of what the frustrations are of the people, what their needs are, what their goals are and the inside language they use too.

For example in the internet marketing niche, you can find such forums by typing into google “internet marketing + forum” and you’ll find a list of them such as Warrior, Digital point, Marketing scoop.

If you’re new, just join in and introduce yourself and slowly build relationships.  Don’t go in there and spam the place.  Like my mentor Alex Jeffreys advised:  Don’t pimp your s***!

What’s Next?

So now you’ve done the ground work, you know what direction to head in, you now need to create the actual product.

You have a choice of different modalities i.e. ebooks, videos, audios.  Also, you need to know what content you’re going to put it.  This is a whole topic in itself so stay tuned to my next post where I’ll give you a hand on these things………………

Have a great day!

Bailey

p.s.  If you haven’t already got your copy of the “Behind the scenes of his six figure business” by Alex jeffreys, just enter you email on the right hand side of the blog to learn how it’s done.

I will be taking it off soon and I’m not just saying this as a “hype”.  Seriously.  So grab it before it goes!

    Hey Bailey,

So good to have you back on your command desk (aka Your Blog); really missed your well crafted posts.

What I especially like about you new post is that you give your readers the whole picture instead of just throwing the same old phrases at the wall. People might have read this scientifically proven fact that “People buy on emotion and justify with logic” before but here you´ll add these well crafted examples to help us all understand this fact so much better. Thanks.

Your two core points that build the foundation of any good solution product or service set everyone on the right path. I am really looking forward to your next post where you´ll be writing about the different modalities of product creation. Keep up the great work.

Hope to catch up with you on our second mastermind-call tinight.

    Bailey:

It sounds like you had a great time in Japan.

This is a great post! Emotions are what drive us to not only make purchases but really in everything we do, so as a marketer we need to tap into those emotions. Each buyer may have different emotions so we have to learn to use several different types of psychological triggers.

Research is so important. Why waste time developing a product that you think the user should buy when you can do the research and determine what the user wants to buy and then make you product.

      Hey Rick,

Absolutely man, let your customers tell you what they want rather than just guessing and hoping they’ll buy from you!

Yes good point about people having different emotional triggers. We are all different at the end of the day, so we do need to bear that in mind. There’s no one size fits all but understanding who we are selling to and what their needs and wants are gives you a very good starting point.

That pic is hilarious, made me smile !

I certainly buy from emotion all the time, and when I see something I want, nothing will stop me from getting it.

You are spot on when you mention the tips for creating killer products BUT… when you mentioned attracting affiliates you hit the nail on the head.

Once you have an army of affiliates promoting for you, you really do hit the jackpot.

    Hi Bailey,

Great post. Emotions does trigger quite a few things with us humans. I actually met a female marketer a while back from Australia, that made a decent amount of money online from very minimal traffic.

Her marketing was purely focused on selling products that provides a solutions to problems. I read this everywhere, and in the past I never took control on this part, and always stayed on the benefits.

A great tip you have given about visiting Amazon, as a very effective way to know your market.

    Hi Bailey

Very well thought out and informative post with some excellent points, Research (love the Amazon tip), Problems, Emotions, sales.
    and then you over deliver.

I’ve always had the mentality of:

“Look after the customer and the customer will look after you”

You will only “con” a customer once, then they’ll be gone for good, they’ll probably tell others of their experience too – it’s just not worth it.

I’ve always wanted to visit Japan but never managed it yet, I’ve heard it’s an amazing place – although any holiday is good for relieving stress and re-energising you.
I just wish it was as easy “popping over” to Japan as it is to pop over to Alex’s site to download his new eBook!!

Keep up the good work, I’ll be visiting on a regular basis from now on.

    All the Best

Thank you so much for coming by and giving your valuable comments. Yes, the days of con artists coming in trying to make a quick buck is going which is a good thing. It still exists, but will be much harder to do nowadays with the prescence of social media. Everything is much more transparent now.
I guess the “good guys” get the credit which is how things should be!

Joining a niche related community can help you learn more about your topic that can help you on creating your own product.
